Scientific Advisory Board

Magtein’s research program is advised by a formal Scientific Advisory Board that includes Dr. Thomas Südhof, recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The board advises on research direction, study design, and scientific communication.

Thomas C. Südhof, M.D.

Thomas C. Südhof, M.D.

Avram Goldstein Professor, Stanford University School of Medicine, and Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Dr. Südhof received the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (shared with James Rothman and Randy Schekman) for discoveries on the machinery that governs vesicle trafficking, a fundamental cellular transport system. His own contribution centered on the molecular basis of synaptic vesicle release and synapse formation.

He advises our research program on synaptic neuroscience and scientific direction.

Jack L. Feldman, Ph.D.

Jack L. Feldman, Ph.D.

Distinguished Professor of Neurobiology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

Dr. Feldman is a systems neuroscientist, best known for discovering and naming the pre-Bötzinger complex — the brainstem circuit that generates the rhythm of breathing. His more recent work explores the links between breathing, emotional state, and brain function.

He advises our research program on the neuroscience relevant to stress, calm, and sleep.

Guosong Liu, M.D., Ph.D.

Guosong Liu, M.D., Ph.D.

Chief Executive Officer & Founder, Neurocentria Inc. · former faculty, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory (MIT); founder, Center for Learning and Memory, Tsinghua University

Dr. Liu developed magnesium L-threonate as a cognitive-health ingredient and leads its ongoing research program. He earned his Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from UCLA and completed postdoctoral research at Stanford.
